Dozens of “Core” Genes Strongly Linked with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Study Finds

A landmark study took a closer look at the role genetics plays in the onset of chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) — identifying approximately 259 “core” genes strongly linked with the debilitating condition.

“About 42% of the genes that we found in Long COVID also show up reproducibly across multiple cohorts in [CFS],” Steve Gardner, a member of the research team at Precision Life in Oxford, told New Scientist.

“These are obviously two partially overlapping diseases.”

The bombshell findings by Gardner and his colleagues come just months after an August study identified 43 “core” genes.
