Over 70% of Torontonians Reporting Cost of Living Increase Amid Canada-US Trade War

Nearly three-quarters of Torontonians claim the Canada-US trade war has increased their cost of living, according to a new poll.

While the survey — conducted by Canada Pulse Insights on behalf of CityNews — found that 84% of respondents have been affected by US duties in some way, 74% have seen their wallets take a hit.

Other Key Findings

  • 68% of Torontonians agree with keeping US liquor and wine off store shelves until a new trade agreement is reached.
  • 59% of respondents have decided against travelling south of the border due to the ongoing trade war.
  • 58% of Torontonians are afraid of the direction that the United States is headed with President Donald Trump at the helm.
  • 28% of respondents expressed anxiety over losing their jobs as a result of the ongoing trade war.
  • Almost 33% of Torontonians believe Prime Minister Mark Carney is best suited to dealing with the situation, compared to Conservative Opposition Leader Pierre Poilievre.
