Show Notes

  • Terminating an employee but withholding pay: Employers cannot withhold pay or a record of employment after an employee has been let go. Employers could face additional legal consequences if they do not provide their employees with what they are owed. While it is rare for punitive damages to be awarded, employers could be liable if they have not behaved fairly or reasonably with employees.
  • Elements to look for in a contract: It is very important to look closely at the terms outlined in an employment contract. A job description can outline all of the responsibilities required of an employee, and whether or not a role is flexible and will evolve. An employment contract can also refer to policies in the workplace, bonus plans, codes of conduct, etc.
  • Returning to work after working from home: Employers are within their rights to request employees return to the office. Employees who wish to continue working from home and relocate or move should convey their concerns to their employer. Employees that are working from home due to childcare obligations or due to a medical condition, could require accommodations from their employer.
