Show Notes

  • Senior mechanic hours drastically reduced: It is important for employees to be aware that their employer cannot implement major changes to the terms of their job without consent. Employees that initially permit an employer to enact a change have given their boss permission to do so in the future. Employees that do not accept a major change can consider their employment terminated.
  • Moving departments and seniority: Employees wishing to switch departments internally should remember that their seniority will be acknowledged. Years of service cannot be erased even if it is similar to a transition from one company to a sister corporation. Employees should be wary of signing a new employment contract if changing a department or position.
  • An accurate termination “for cause”: Employers often mistakenly terminate an employee for cause due to a simple mistake or performance issues. It is very difficult for employers to justify a termination “for cause” based on performance concerns. Employees can only be terminated for cause due to serious misconduct. Employers must build a case against an employee, and show disciplinary action has been taken prior to the termination.
