Show Notes
- Employee childcare obligations and change in location: Employers have an obligation to provide accommodations for employees with childcare obligations. Employers that choose not to accommodate an employee have violated human rights and protections under family status. While employees should try and find possible alternatives for childcare, employers have a duty to accommodate up until the point of undue hardship.
- Social media at the workplace: Employees can be terminated without cause for any reason by their employers as long as it is not discriminatory, and adequate severance pay has been given. Employers are also permitted to have expectations of employee conduct and productivity at the workplace.
- Privacy concerns for employees and social media: Employees should expect that nothing they post online is considered private. Employees can be disciplined or terminated as a result of online behaviour. In order to terminate an employee for cause, however, employers will have to prove serious employee misconduct.
