Show Notes

  • Severance package for those considered contract employees: It is important for employees who have been terminated without cause to consider their employment contracts when let go. Often, employment contracts can dictate the severance entitlements an employee is owed upon termination. Individuals that have signed repeated contracts should note that eventually, signing an employment contract is considered meaningless and they are considered employees.
  • Taking a medical leave of absence due to a stressful work environment: While many employees can be tempted to take a leave of absence due to performance issues and a stressful workplace, are entitled to do so, the situation might not be resolved as a result. Employees should respond to all performance reviews and disciplinary action if they believe it is inaccurate in writing.
  • Fired for cause based on bad performance: A termination for cause occurs in the event of an employee’s serious misconduct. Employers often mistakenly terminate an employee for cause due to performance issues. Employees that are terminated for cause are not owed severance pay but often are wrongfully dismissed.
