What We Covered

How to preserve your workplace rights, casual employees, change in your hours of work, the duty to accommodate and MORE.

47 – WEEK THAT WAS #1: A bank worker with a medical condition had a work from home agreement with his supervisor and the bank. Upon the supervisor’s departure a new supervisor did not agree with the duty to accommodate and informed him he had resigned.

03 – A woman worked as a casual employee for 2 years and then started working regular shifted hours. The employer decided to make some changes and put her back on casual hours. Can her employer change her terms of employment?

10 – SEVERANCE PAY CALCULATOR: Find out what your owed at severancepaycalculator.com

06 – PRESERVE YOUR WORKPLACE RIGHTS: Don’t sign employment agreements without knowing what you are signing.

12 – PRESERVE YOUR WORKPLACE RIGHTS: Don’t “take one for the team” at your expense. Don’t accept a pay cut, a relocation, or a change to your position for the betterment of the company.

00 – PRESERVE YOUR WORKPLACE RIGHTS: Don’t accept a temporary layoff. If you have been laid off temporarily you are owed a severance pay.

03 – PRESERVE YOUR WORKPLACE RIGHTS: Don’t forget about your employer when you are on medical leave. Send them a quick note to update them on your status so your employer is aware of what is happening.

00 – CALLER: I provide after hours support through my company which provides additional income. The customer who was the majority of my after hours support has moved to a different vendor and I am no longer getting after hours support. What can I do?

35 – Help@EmploymentHour.com: If I apply for a job and find out I didn’t get a job because a family member was hired, do I have any rights?

14 – PRESERVE YOUR WORKPLACE RIGHTS: Don’t quit unless it’s completely voluntary. You don’t want to quit in a situation when you are forced to resign, it can limit your ability to receive severance.

14 – PRESERVE YOUR WORKPLACE RIGHTS: Don’t ever take your employers word for “it”, whatever “it” happens to be. It’s up to you to determine your legal rights.

25 – PRESERVE YOUR WORKPLACE RIGHTS: Don’t accept unfair or inaccurate disciplinary actions from your employer. Don’t lay down, silence is the same as agreement.

44 – PRESERVE YOUR WORKPLACE RIGHTS: Don’t sign off on a severance package on your own. Seek legal advice or legal counsel before you sign a severance agreement.

59 – Help@EmploymentHour.com: I was hired because an employee went on disability. My employer is telling me if I want to keep my position I must relocate to a location 1.5 hours away. What can I do?
