🔹01:35 – The Week That Was: A gentleman with a permanent injury was told by his doctor that he is unable to return to work due to his injury. His insurance company wants continuous updates from his doctors. They recently sent him a letter stating that if he does not continue to provide consistent updates on his medical status his payments will be stopped.
📞 04:25 – Phone Call from the Disability Law Show – “I was on long-term disability due to major depression and anxiety. January of this year they told me the definition of my claim is changing and they are going to reassess my claim. I provided everything to them in December and then they called me and said they have denied my claim. I am not eligible to apply for EI and I can’t return to work. They told me I should see my doctor but my doctor cannot provide any documentation unless I see him.”

📞 20:15 – Phone Call from the Disability Law Show – “I’ve been on LTD for almost 2 years now with a lung condition. The insurance company is now asking me to apply for CPP LTD because I am nearing the 2-year mark. I don’t know what that entails and what that means. I am not fully recovered yet so I’m not ready to go back but they’ve asked me to apply. Does that mean they now have me apply to the government to continue my benefits?”
📧 24:15 – Email from Help@disabilityrights.ca – My son was recently denied his appeal for long term disability after waiting almost 3 months for an answer from his insurance company. My son is 34 years old and suffers from fibromyalgia and sciatica pain due to a genetic birth defect. The insurance company says that he should be able to work in his occupation as a systems engineer but the problem is that his pains have gotten worse in the past year due to an accident he was in. He’s all but given up but I want him to speak with you. Is there anything you can do to help? His family doctor and his specialist both say that he can’t work because of his condition and especially now because of the COVID situation.
📧 26:55 – Email from Help@disabilityrights.ca – I’m a clinical psychologist and have been in practice for over 20 years. I’m already seeing a significant increase of individuals being referred to me because of the psychological toll the COVID virus has had on individuals. My concern is that disability insurers will refuse to help and pay people who are waiting in queue for an appointment to see me and my colleagues. Do you have any advice in this regard as well as with respect to any information insurers may be asking from me and my colleagues regarding our own patients?
