Episode Notes
- I worked at a retailer for almost 30 years as a cashier. My doctor told me I was no longer able to continue working. My claim was approved for two years and also received CPP Disability. My benefits were cut off as the insurer said I could do another type of job. What do I do?
- I’ve been on LTD for 6 months and CPP disability. My LTD insurer wants me to go to an independent medical examination to verify my doctor’s report. The insurance company told me I’ve been approved for 2 years until the change of definition. Is this something I must attend?
- My wife fell and shattered her ankle. She worked as a consultant and it required her to drive to various client site locations. She can’t walk properly let alone drive. Her LTD benefits have been declined twice, even after we appealed. My wife’s doctor clearly said she can’t work. What do we do?
- You often talk on the show about “offsets” like CPP disability – can you explain what an “offset” is in the disability context?
- I have been on LTD for a year-and-a-half now and in six months the language changes to “capable of doing any job”. Unfortunately my job is not there anymore because the company closed down. Can they cut me off after my two years?
- Sometimes the same insurance company pays for therapy and medication costs as well as disability benefits. If a person sues the insurer for disability benefits, do they lose coverage for the therapy and medication?
- I’m 50 years old and have been on LTD through my work and CPP Disability for eleven years. I’m worried the insurance company is going to try and buy me out as I don’t think I’ll ever be able to return to work.
