Teilen and the team at Samfiru Tumarkin LLP secured more than $25,000 in damages for our client after successfully arguing at the Ontario Small Claims Court that they weren’t an independent contractor at the time of their termination — entitling them to severance pay.

Education
Teilen attended law school at the University of Ottawa, where he graduated with a Juris Doctorate degree. A focus on various dispute resolution mechanisms, including pre-litigation negotiation, mediation and arbitration earned him an option in Dispute Resolution and Professionalism. During law school, Teilen was also a member of the University’s lacrosse team, where he earned Academic All-Canadian honours.
Teilen graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting at the University of the District of Columbia in Washington, DC. During university, Teilen was a member and captain of the University’s varsity lacrosse team. Teilen was also named to the University’s Dean’s List and the East Coast Conference’s Commissioner’s Honor Roll.
