Walmart Choosing AI Training Over Replacement for Staff in Canada, US
What’s Happening at Walmart?
Instead of replacing jobs with artificial intelligence (AI), Walmart confirmed that it will be offering free training to approximately 1.6 million employees in Canada and the US.
“We’ll have roughly the same number of people we have today,” CEO John Furner told Fortune — adding that he doesn’t expect AI to lead to sweeping layoffs.
The move by the retailer comes as Sam Altman, the founder and CEO of OpenAI, has accused employers of using the technology as a scapegoat for trimming their staffing levels.
If you’re a non-unionized worker in Canada, know your rights in the event that AI affects your employment.
