900 CHML – Vegan Firefighter Complains to Human Rights Tribunal

Adam Knauff, Vegan Firefighter

Adam Knauff, a Firefighter from Ontario, has filed a complaint with the Human Rights Tribunal, alleging his rights were violated by his employer for failing to provide appropriate vegan food options while Knauff was fighting a wildfire near Williams Lake, B.C. in 2018.

Due to Knauff’s negative reactions regarding the situation Knauff was suspended without pay for three days.

Do Ethical Vegans qualify as a creed or simply a lifestyle choice? Should their dietary considerations be protected by the human rights code? Should employers be forced to accommodate vegan employees?
