Trump delaying tariffs on USMCA-compliant goods until April

What’s happening?
Just days after starting a trade war with Canada, U.S. President Donald Trump is delaying 25-per-cent tariffs on all USMCA-compliant goods until April 2.
The bombshell update comes on the heels of Trump granting automakers, including General Motors, Ford, and Stellantis, a one-month reprieve on duties.
U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick told reporters on March 6 that he expected the president to pause the trade action as negotiations continue with Canada and Mexico.

Ontario unfazed by temporary truce
Despite the latest developments, Ontario Premier Doug Ford is keeping U.S. booze off LCBO shelves and plans to proceed with a 25-per-cent energy export tax next week.
“[Trump] needs to drop tariffs entirely,” Ivana Yelich, the premier’s deputy chief of staff, told CTV News in an email.
Ford has also ripped up a $100-million agreement with Starlink’s Elon Musk and moved to prohibit American companies from being able to bid on nearly $30 billion in procurement contracts.
