While many tech workers are worried about artificial intelligence (AI) taking their jobs, it turns out not using the technology enough can affect your layoff exposure.

According to new report from Gallup, tech workers who don’t use AI “at least monthly” were found to be 3 times as likely to be laid off than those that do.

Our AI Replacement Guide breaks down everything that non-unionized employees in Canada need to know if they’re fired and replaced with AI.

“This finding suggests that, within technology, an industry already showing higher layoff exposure than other industries, workers who had not made AI a regular part of their work faced greater risk,” the report reads.

“Across the rest of the workforce, AI use is also associated with lower layoff risk, but the pattern is stronger in the tech sector.”

Gallup also noted that staff engagement with AI tools can serve as an indicator of how prepared a workforce is for AI-related changes.
