Canada Unveils AI Plan, Pledges Tens of Thousands of Jobs by 2031

A futuristic 3D rendering of the word

On June 4, 2026, the Government of Canada unveiled its much-anticipated artificial intelligence (AI) plan — with a strong focus on job creation.

By 2031, the federal government wants to accomplish the following:

  • Create up to 90,000 AI-related roles and work opportunities for young Canadians
  • Use AI adoption to create upwards of 250,000 new positions

“Canadians want safe, reliable, and sovereign AI. They want the best tools to build a prosperous future guided by our values,” AI Minister Evan Solomon told reporters in Toronto.

Additionally, the federal government wants to provide all Canadians with access to free AI literacy training and boost AI among Canadian businesses to 60% by 2034. Currently, around 14.5% of employers in the country have integrated the technology into their operations.
