SIU Investigating After Stolen Vehicle, Taxi Collide in Hamilton’s East End

The Special Investigations Unit (SIU), Ontario’s police watchdog, has invoked its mandate following a serious collision in Hamilton’s east end.
“At approximately 11:40 pm on July 23, Hamilton Police Service officers, in a marked cruiser, attempted to stop [the driver of a stolen vehicle] on Aikman Avenue. A short time later, the fleeing vehicle was involved in a collision with a taxi on Sanford Avenue South,” the SIU said in a news release.
“The driver of the fleeing vehicle, a 34-year-old man, was arrested and taken to hospital where he is being treated for a serious injury. The driver of the taxi was not seriously injured.”
Witnesses Sought
🔔 Anyone with information on the collision, including cellphone or dashcam footage, is asked to contact the SIU’s lead investigator at 1-800-787-8529 or online.
