SIU: Driver linked to Kia theft in Oakville seriously hurt in collision

Incident details
The Special Investigations Unit (SIU), Ontario’s police watchdog, has invoked its mandate after a vehicle heist in Oakville ended with a serious collision in Mississauga.
- In the morning on March 12, Halton police responded to reports that a Kia Sedona was stolen from a home in Oakville.
- Officers were informed that a GMC Hummer was linked to the vehicle theft.
- Both the Kia Sedona and GMC Hummer were located in the area of Upper Middle Road and Trafalgar Road. Both vehicles attempted to flee police.
- During the pursuit, the GMC Hummer collided with a tractor-trailer around Winston Churchill Boulevard and Lakeshore Road East in Mississauga.
- The driver of the GMC Hummer, a 26-year-old man, was arrested and taken to hospital with serious injuries.
Investigation updates
Three SIU investigators have been assigned to this case. The agency examines police conduct in incidents that result in serious injury, the discharge of a firearm, allegations of sexual assault, or death.
