SIU investigating Burlington crash that sent 5 males to hospital

The Special Investigations Unit (SIU), Ontario’s police watchdog, has invoked its mandate following a collision in Burlington that sent five males to hospital.
- The incident took place in the area of Appleby Line and Britannia Road after 4 a.m. ET on May 27.
- “Halton Regional Police Service received two reports of home invasions — one in Oakville and one in Milton. They had information about the vehicle’s description…On Appleby Line, north of Number 4 Side Road, a tire deflation device was deployed. A short time later, in the area of Appleby Line and Britannia Road, the vehicle [carrying five males] collided with a utility pole,” the SIU said in a news release.
- Two of the five males, a 24-year-old and a 16-year-old, are being treated for serious injuries.

Anyone with information on the incident, including cellphone or dashcam footage, is asked to contact the SIU’s lead investigator at 1-800-787-8529.
The agency examines police conduct in incidents that result in serious injury, the discharge of a firearm, allegations of sexual assault, or death.
