Incident details

Toronto police are investigating a suspected road rage incident in North York that left two people seriously injured on Monday. A black Dodge Ram pickup truck is being sought after it rammed, chased, and shot at a Kia Sportage, ultimately causing the vehicle to flip over, according to CP24.

The incident took place across multiple locations, beginning near Willowdale and Cummer avenues and ending at Yonge Street and Empress Avenue.

Timeline of events

The situation began around 10:45 a.m. when police were called to Yonge and Empress for reports of a shooting.

  • According to Duty Inspector Brian Maslowski, the altercation started several kilometers away at Willowdale and Cummer avenues, where the black Dodge Ram rear-ended the Kia Sportage.
  • Following the collision, the Dodge Ram pursued the Kia to the intersection of Willowdale and Bishop avenues.
  • At this location, a person inside the truck fired shots at the Kia.
  • The victims, a man and a woman, attempted to escape southbound on Yonge Street but collided with another vehicle, believed to be a dump truck.
  • The impact caused the Kia to flip over.

Despite the crash, the black pickup truck followed the Kia to Yonge and Empress, where the shooter fired at the vehicle once more before fleeing the scene.

Injuries and investigation

The two occupants of the Kia were transported to the hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, which police say were caused by the rollover, not gunfire. The number of shots fired remains unclear, and no suspect descriptions have been released.

Inspector Maslowski described the incident as “heinous” and “unusual” but did not confirm whether it was a targeted attack or a case of extreme road rage, citing the early stages of the investigation. He added that there is no known connection to any specific events or commemorations, dismissing any link to the October 7 anniversary marked by Jewish communities.

Suspect Vehicle Description

Authorities are searching for the black Dodge Ram, which has significant front-end damage and a broken window. Police urge anyone who spots the vehicle to call 911 immediately.

Investigation update

Toronto Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision, and request any witnesses with dashcam or security footage from the area to assist in the investigation.
