3 Hospitalized After Back-to-Back QEW Crashes Near St. Catharines

The Toronto-bound lanes of the QEW near St. Catharines have reopened following back-to-back multi-vehicle collisions.
Crash #1
- Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) said in a post on X (formerly Twitter) that three vehicles collided near the Niagara Street overpass before 7:20am ET on July 28.
- One of the drivers was taken to hospital with “fairly serious injuries.”
- Officials charged one of the motorists with careless driving. It wasn’t disclosed if the injured driver was the one charged.
Crash #2
- Shortly after 7:36am ET on July 28, emergency crews responded to reports of a multi-vehicle collision past Welland Avenue — involved 2 tractor-trailers and 5 other vehicles.
- OPP said one of the tractor-trailer drivers failed to slow down in time to avoid colliding with traffic ahead of the vehicle. The motorist was charged with careless driving.
- 2 people were taken to hospital. In an update, officials said neither individual has life-threatening injuries.
