900 CHML – Pay Transparency Bill: The Impact on Ontario

Pay Transparency Two Silouhetted People High Five

Saying efforts to narrow the gender wage gap are not working, the Ontario government will soon force firms to disclose salary ranges in jobs ads and also report to the province what they pay their employees.

Ontario’s proposed Pay Transparency Act, would require all advertised job postings to include: a salary rate or range; bar employers from asking about past compensation; and prohibit reprisal against employees who discuss or disclose compensation. It also would require large employers to track and report compensation gaps based on gender and other diversity characteristics, and disclose said information to the province.

Jon Pinkus, associate at Samfiru Tumarkin LLP, joined host Bill Kelly on Global News Radio 900 CHML, where the Toronto Employment Lawyer stated that he believes that this new legislation will have a big impact on salary negotiations between employees and employers in Ontario.
