Don’t Sleep on Safety: OPP Charge Hyundai Driver with Unsecured Mattresses

Incident Details
A driver travelling through Paris, Ontario with multiple unsecured mattresses on the roof has been charged by provincial police.
- The motorist, driving a grey Hyundai Accent, was stopped by Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) on Rest Acres Road on June 23.
- Instead of proper security straps, officials claim a passenger inside the Hyundai was trying to hold the mattresses in place.
- “Folks, your hands aren’t cargo straps. Secure your load properly — or you might just end up losing sleep over the fine,” OPP Constable Jonathan Bueckert said in a social media post.
What Charges Were Laid?
The driver of the grey Hyundai Accent was charged with transporting an unsecured load.
If the mattresses flew off the vehicle, officials believe it could have led to a serious, potentially fatal, car accident.
