OPP cruiser struck by stolen pickup truck on Hwy. 401 near Cornwall

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are investigating after one of their cruisers was struck by a stolen pickup truck on Highway 401, east of Cornwall.
- The incident took place in the eastbound lanes of the highway between Summertown Road/County Road 27 and County Road 2 in the morning on March 4.
- Photos of the scene show significant damage to an OPP cruiser and a dark-coloured pickup truck in a ditch.
- The driver of the stolen pickup truck was transported to hospital.
- No injuries have been reported for the OPP officer operating the cruiser.
- Eastbound lanes of Highway 401 between Summertown Road/County Road 27 and County Road 2 reopened around 8:25 p.m. ET.
Investigation updates
The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) invoked its mandate, but later told CTV News Ottawa that it was no longer investigating because the injuries weren’t serious.
The agency examines police conduct in incidents that result in serious injury, death, the discharge of a firearm, or allegations of sexual assault.
Anyone with information on the crash, including cellphone or dashcam footage, is asked to contact the OPP.
