What’s going on at OpenText?

OpenText is reportedly slashing 1,600 jobs. The move is an expansion of the Waterloo-based tech company’s “business optimization plan” laid out in July 2024.

According to BetaKit, CEO Mark Barrenechea told staff in April that embracing artificial intelligence (AI) is the “number one priority and baseline expectation.”

Samfiru Tumarkin LLP has been contacted by multiple OpenText employees — claiming they’ve been let go.

Our experienced employment lawyers are following up with affected staff to better understand the situation.

According to LinkedIn, OpenText employs more than 3,100 people in the country.
