Global News – Ontario Teacher Assaulted at Work Fights Back
Ontario teacher Julie Austin, who was assaulted by a student while at school, is fighting back after her insurance provider informed her that her long term disability payments were being cut off.
She is taking legal action against the Ontario Teachers’ Insurance Plan. OTIP believes that Austin no longer qualifies for LTD benefits, despite the fact that her condition has not improved since she suffered her brain injury in the classroom in 2014.
Disability lawyer James K. Fireman, partner at Samfiru Tumarkin LLP, is representing Austin, and discussed her case with Global News’ Tom Hayes.
UPDATE: Samfiru Tumarkin LLP was successful in having Julie’s LTD benefits reinstated.
