Did Ontario Change Accident Benefits in 2026?

Yes — As of July 1, 2026, many accident benefits in Ontario are no longer mandatory.

  • Income replacement benefits (IRB)
  • Non-earner benefits (NEB)
  • Caregiver
  • Lost educational expenses
  • Visitor expenses

Other Notable Changes

Ontario has also shrunk the definition of an “insured person” to:

  • The named insured
  • Spouse of the named insured

The changes come as the province increases the speed limit on approximately 89% of highways to 110 km/hour by the end of September.
