Latest Novo Nordisk Layoff News
September 21, 2026: Restructuring departures reach 13,000
The latest update expands the picture of Novo Nordisk’s workforce reductions since its 2025 restructuring announcement. The Financial Times reported that most of the additional 4,000 departures involved employees leaving and their positions not being filled.
This is a cumulative restructuring update, not an announcement of 4,000 new layoffs. The reporting does not identify a new Canadian layoff round or establish how many Canadian employees were affected.
Are Novo Nordisk Employees In Canada Affected?
Canadian layoffs have not been confirmed in the reporting reviewed for this update. Novo Nordisk’s Canadian headquarters is in Mississauga, Ontario, but having operations here does not establish that Canadian employees were included in the reported reductions.
If you have received a termination notice or severance offer, you do not need to wait for a public announcement to get advice. Your package should be reviewed based on your Canadian employment rights, not severance arrangements reported in other countries.

Novo Nordisk Layoff History
September 2025: Approximately 9,000 job cuts announced
On September 10, 2025, Novo Nordisk announced plans to eliminate approximately 9,000 positions worldwide, including around 5,000 in Denmark. The company said the restructuring would simplify its organisation, speed up decisions and redirect resources toward growth in diabetes and obesity treatments.

How Much Severance Could A Novo Nordisk Employee Receive?
There is no single Novo Nordisk severance formula in Canada. Non-unionized employees who lose their jobs could be owed up to 24 months’ pay, depending on their circumstances.
Your age, length of service, position, compensation and ability to find similar work can all matter. Your employment contract can also affect what you are entitled to receive.
Government minimums are not necessarily your full severance. An offer based on one or two weeks of pay per year of service may fall short of what you are actually owed. A package described as “standard” or “company policy” is still worth checking.
Bonuses, commissions, benefits and other compensation may also affect the value of your package. You don’t need to work that out yourself — the important thing is to have the entire offer reviewed.
What Should You Do Before Signing A Novo Nordisk Severance Package?
Don’t sign your Novo Nordisk severance package until you know whether the offer is fair. Start with three simple steps:
- Get the complete offer in writing. Keep your termination letter and any release you are being asked to sign.
- Gather your own employment documents. Your contract and recent pay information can help us assess the package.
- Have the offer reviewed. Find out whether you could be owed more before accepting it.
Is Getting More Severance From Novo Nordisk Difficult?
Getting your Novo Nordisk severance package reviewed does not mean committing yourself to a long legal battle. The first step is simply finding out whether the offer is fair.
We can explain whether you could be owed more and what your options are. Many severance matters can be resolved through negotiation without a trial. You do not need to negotiate with Novo Nordisk yourself before asking for help.

The September 21, 2026 update reports 13,000 departures connected to the restructuring that began in 2025. It does not establish a new round of 4,000 layoffs; most of the additional departures reportedly involved employees leaving and their positions not being refilled.
Are Novo Nordisk layoffs affecting Canada?
Canadian impact has not been confirmed in the latest reporting. The 13,000 figure is worldwide, not a Canadian job-loss total.

There is no fixed amount. Non-unionized employees in Canada could receive up to 24 months’ pay, depending on factors such as their age, service, position and employment contract.
Do I have to sign my Novo Nordisk severance package?
