New Gold Eliminating 85 Roles in BC, Unrelated to $7B Coeur Mining Acquisition

What’s Happening at New Gold?

New Gold is eliminating approximately 85 jobs at its New Afton mine in Kamloops, British Columbia (BC).

The workforce reduction comes as the Toronto-based gold miner prepared to be acquired by Coeur Mining in a deal valued at approximately US$7 billion. However, New Gold said in a news release that the job cuts are “unrelated” to the sale.


Which Roles at New Gold are Affected?

While New Gold hasn’t disclosed the specific roles being cut at the New Afton mine, 1-on-1 meetings are scheduled to take place.

According to reports, around 500 people currently work at the mine.
