What’s Happening at Microsoft?

Microsoft plans to spend more than $7.5-billion in Canada over the next 2 years as part of a data-centre expansion.

“We’re building new digital and AI infrastructure needed for the nation’s growth and prosperity, with new capacity beginning to come online in the second half of 2026,” the tech giant said in a blog post on Dec. 9.

“Equally important, we’re launching a new five-point plan to promote and protect Canada’s digital sovereignty…we’re combining this with ongoing and new work to invest in Canada’s people, ensuring they have access to the skills needed to succeed in an AI era.”

Microsoft currently employs more than 5,300 Canadians.
