What’s Happening at Microsoft?

Microsoft is reportedly planning to eliminate approximately 9,000 positions, it’s largest workforce reduction in more than 2 years.

According to multiple media outlets, the tech giant began sending out notices on July 2 — affecting a variety of divisions, including Xbox and its sales unit.

“We continue to implement organizational changes necessary to best position the company and teams for success in a dynamic marketplace,” Microsoft said in a statement to The Associated Press.

The latest round of job cuts comes just weeks after the company slashed around 6,000 roles in May.

Impact on Canadian Staff

Samfiru Tumarkin LLP is working to determine how many Canadian employees at Microsoft, if any, are affected by the latest workforce reduction.

According to LinkedIn, the company currently has more than 5,300 workers in the country.

Next Steps for Microsoft Employees

If you’re fired or let go from Microsoft, understanding your legal rights is crucial.

The amount you’re owed is based on a variety of factors, including your role, tenure, age, and ability to find similar work.
