Meta Facing Lawsuit for Allegedly Using AI to Axe Workers with Disabilities
Is Meta Being Sued in 2026?
Yes. Meta is facing a major discrimination lawsuit after cutting thousands of jobs in May 2026 — alleging that the tech giant used artificial intelligence (AI) to target staffers with disabilities or caregiving responsibilities.
The legal action, which is comprised of dozens of plaintiffs, was filed in a federal court in Oakland, California on July 13, 2026.
Our Workplace Discrimination Guide breaks down everything that non-unionized employees in Canada need to know.
“These [allegations] lack merit and are not based on facts. Workforce management and organizational decisions were, and are, made by people, not AI,” spokesperson Tracy Clayton said in a statement.
However, the affected workers argue that Meta’s AI tool, Metamate, likely helped management single out certain staffers — tracking employee productivity, correspondence, and documents.
