77-Year-Old Dead, Struck by Vehicle After Hwy. 401 Crash in Etobicoke

Incident Details
Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are investigating a fatality after an SUV and a tractor-trailer collided on Highway 401 in Etobicoke.
- Before 5am ET on July 19, an SUV and a tractor-trailer collided in the eastbound lanes of the highway near Dixon Road, east of Highway 427.
- “The driver of that SUV exited their vehicle, the person was then subsequently struck by another passing vehicle,” OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt said in a video on X (formerly Twitter).
- 3 people were taken to hospital. Unfortunately, the driver of the SUV, a 77-year-old man from Mississauga, succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
- Officials didn’t disclose how serious the injuries of the other 2 hospitalized individuals were.

Investigation Updates
The cause of the fatality remains under investigation. It’s unclear if charges are pending.
