610 CKTB – Lawyers on Canadian Class-action Lawsuit Against Uber

A multi-million dollar class-action lawsuit has been filed against Uber Technologies Inc. in Ontario. Uber Eats driver David Heller is seeking to have Uber’s relationship with its drivers deemed as an employer-employee relationship, rather than one that incorrectly treats drivers as Independent Contractors.

Employment lawyer Lior Samfiru, partner at Samfiru Tumarkin LLP and lead counsel on the class-action lawsuit, joined host Larry Fedoruk on Newstalk 610 CKTB to explain why Uber drivers are in fact employees, and not independent contractors, and why the only way a drive can currently challenge Uber is by attending court 6,000 km away in The Netherlands.
