What’s Happening at GM?

On April 29, 2026, General Motors (GM) announced that it’s investing $691 million into its propulsion plant in St. Catharines, Ont.

The facility, currently producing the automaker’s fifth generation of its V-8 engine for full-sized trucks and SUVs, has received the equipment necessary to develop the next-gen engine.

“[This plant] will play a key role in one of our core vehicle programs for years to come, and it reflects General Motors’ confidence in the St. Catharines team and their proud 74-year legacy of powering our most popular vehicles,” Jack Uppal, president and managing director of GM Canada, said in a news release.

It’s unclear what this investment means for the facility’s workforce. Around 150 employees remain on a temporary layoff.
