Furniture-Filled Tractor Trailer Ignites on Highway 401 Near Gananoque, Shuts Down Westbound Lanes

What Happened?
According to the OPP, the Leeds 1000 Islands Fire Service responded around mid-afternoon on Saturday to a trailer fire on Highway 401 near Gananoque. The trailer, loaded with furniture, was fully engulfed, and flames had spread to a nearby grassy area.
- Ontario Provincial Police closed Highway 401 westbound between Reynolds Road and Stone Street North to ensure crew safety.
- Todd Grier Excavating and John Campbell’s Towing assisted in opening the stacked load to reach hidden fires.
- Gananoque Fire Service supported the operation by maintaining a continuous water supply from a local hydrant.
No injuries were reported, including to the driver of the transport truck. Firefighting and cleanup operations continued through the afternoon.
