Motorcyclist, 62, Dead After Head-On Pickup Truck Collision Near St. Catharines

A 62-year-old motorcyclist has been pronounced dead after a head-on collision with a pickup truck on Highway 58 in Thorold — a community southeast of St. Catharines — on Sept. 18, 2025.

What Happened?
- According to Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), the incident took place at the intersection of Highway 58 and Thorold Stone Road before 4pm ET on Sept. 18.
- OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt said in a video on X (formerly Twitter) that the motorcyclist tried to “beat the light.” Unfortunately, a pickup truck was turning left and a head-on collision occurred — ejecting the motorcyclist onto another vehicle.
- Despite life-saving efforts by EMS, the motorcyclist — a 62-year-old man from Niagara Falls — was pronounced dead.
- Highway 58 at Thorold Stone Road was closed for several hours.

The cause of the head-on collision remains under investigation.
