Ensuring workers rights in the Uber Class Action Lawsuit
After a historic ruling by the Supreme Court of Canada in the Uber Class Action Lawsuit, Lior Samfiru of Samfiru Tumarkin LLP spoke with The Lawyers Daily on how this decision is an affirmation of employees’ rights.
“Legal rights, legal entitlements have no meaning whatsoever if there’s no mechanism to enforce those rights,” said Samfiru, one of the plaintiff’s legal representatives in the Uber Technologies Inc. v. Heller case. The Supreme Court of Canada ruled that Uber’s demand for arbitration take place in the Netherlands was “unconscionable”.
Many have hailed this decision as a win for workers in the gig economy. For the latest information on this ongoing case read here.
