City of Vancouver Staff Believe 2026 Return-to-Office Push Akin to Quiet Layoff
What’s Happening?
Staff at the City of Vancouver reportedly believe the municipality’s decision to resume in-office work 5 days a week in 2026 is aimed at getting non-unionized workers to resign — akin to a quiet layoff.
“The general feeling is that this is being done as a strategy to get rid of people,” a long-service employee told the Vancouver Sun.
Concerns come as Vancouver trims its facilities development team — with hundreds of additional jobs potentially on the chopping block as the city continues to look for ways to reduce expenses.
