Block Cutting Nearly 50% of Workforce in 2026, Part of Restructuring

What’s Happening at Block?

Block is eliminating approximately 4,000 jobs — nearly 50% of its workforce — as part of a restructuring.

CEO Jack Dorsey, the former head of Twitter, said in a letter to shareholders that “intelligence tools” are making it possible for smaller teams to “do more and do it better.”

“And this isn’t just about efficiency. Block serves millions of customers…the urgency behind [the demand for our services] is more pronounced, and the speed at which we need to deliver is accelerating.”


Impact on Canadian Staff

It remains unclear if Canadian employees are Block are being let go.

According to LinkedIn, the payments company currently has more than 160 workers in the country.
