Women may be more vulnerable as artificial intelligence (AI) takes over some jobs, according to a recent study.

Researchers at GOVAI, an organization that studies the policy implications of AI progress, found individuals in clerical and administrative positions had a tougher time transferring their skills to roles with less AI exposure. According to the findings, 86% of workers in this group were female.

In addition to examining gender, researchers also noted that age could dramatically affect an individual’s chances of getting hired as more businesses integrate AI into their operations.

Older workers struggle more with displacement partly because of reduced flexibility in retraining, relocation, and occupational switching,” the study reads.

As the workplace continues to evolve, experts recommend “remaining nimble” and looking for ways to stay ahead of the technological curve.
