9-year-old dead, struck by stolen vehicle fleeing Calgary police

A nine-year-old girl is dead after being struck by a stolen vehicle that was fleeing from Calgary police.
- Emergency crews responded to a five-vehicle crash in the area of Southland Drive and Macleod Trail South around 10 a.m. ET on Dec. 26.
- Police said the incident took place after a pharmacy was robbed in the city’s southwest end. A pharmacist was attacked and their vehicle was reportedly stolen.
- Crews followed the stolen vehicle following the robbery. To evade police, the vehicle attempted to run a red light at Southland Drive and Macleod Trail — colliding with four other vehicles.
- The nine-year-old girl, another minor, and two adults were taken to hospital in critical condition.
- Unfortunately, the nine-year-old girl succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead.
Investigation updates
Calgary police told CTV News that the suspect has been arrested and charges are pending.
Investigators are asking anyone with information on the incident, including cellphone or dashcam footage, to contact them.
