580 CFRA – Toronto Bar Under Fire for “No Means Yes” Sign
A Toronto bar owner has apologized following an online backlash over a bar sign that angered people who said it was joking about sexual assault.
Locals Only issued a statement on social media that said a staff member had made the sign without management’s knowledge. They called the sign, “disgusting, derogatory, and insensitive towards a serious issue that we in no shape or form condone.”
The bar says a staff member will be fired. But will that termination be considered a “for cause” termination?
Employment lawyer Lior Samfiru, partner at Samfiru Tumarkin LLP, joined host Brian Lilley on Newstalk 580 CFRA to explain whether or not the bar has cause to fire the employee, and the proper actions they should take with the employee.
