What’s Going On at Bayer?

Bayer has confirmed the elimination of approximately 2,000 jobs globally in Q1 2025 as part of its sweeping, ongoing restructuring plan.
The announcement, reported by BioSpace, came during a media call on May 13, 2025, alongside the release of the company’s quarterly earnings.

  • CEO Bill Anderson said the cuts affect all three Bayer divisions: Pharmaceuticals, Crop Science, and Consumer Health
  • The company is “thinning management layers” as part of a strategy to become leaner and more agile, CFO Wolfgang Nickl noted
  • Bayer launched its new Dynamic Shared Ownership (DSO) model in January 2024, which was expected to involve major staff reductions through 2025
“There is a very keen focus more on the level of positions that are being reduced — they’re mostly management positions,” said Nickl.

Since the restructuring began in July 2023, Bayer has shed approximately 11,000 jobs globally.

More Details

Bayer reported $15.3 billion in Q1 2025 revenue – down 0.1% year-over-year.

  • Revenue for top-performing drugs Kerendia (chronic kidney disease) and Nubeqa (prostate cancer) are up 87% an 78% YoY, respectively.

Impact on Canadian Staff

It remains unclear if the workforce reduction at Bayer will affect Canadian employees. The company has more than 92,800 workers across the globe.
