Thunder Bay at risk of losing dozens of Alstom jobs in June

What’s going on at Alstom?
Approximately 250 jobs could be eliminated at Alstom’s Thunder Bay plant in June unless more contracts are secured.
“We’re laying off so many [workers] right now because again, the LRV (light rail vehicle) streetcar contract has come to completion and we currently have about just over 200 members working on that line,” Justin Roberts, president of Unifor Local 1075, told TBNewsWatch.com.
“As that one ramps down there will be a gradual layoff in smaller increments until the full completion of that contract.”
Perry Jensen, the company’s communications manager, said Alstom is actively working on potential future opportunities for the site.
It remains unclear if a workforce reduction would affect both unionized and non-unionized employees.
