Hwy. 401 crash: Fiery collision closes westbound express lanes near DVP

Toronto, ON – Early Wednesday morning, a fiery crash resulted in the closure of the westbound express lanes of Highway 401 near the Don Valley Parkway (Hwy. 404) interchange in Toronto. The incident occurred around 5:10 a.m. when a tractor-trailer collided with the highway barrier, causing intense flames and heavy smoke.

Victim Information
The driver of the tractor-trailer was taken to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries. No other injuries have been reported.
Investigation and Cleanup
The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are currently investigating the cause of the crash. Cleanup efforts are underway, but due to the severity of the damage, including damage to the pavement, the closure is expected to last until at least noon, with potential lane restrictions extending into the afternoon.
A second fiery collision on the 401 involving a tractor-trailer has occured just days following this incident.
Traffic Impact
- The westbound express lanes of Highway 401 are closed from west of the Don Valley Parkway/Hwy. 404 interchange to Leslie Street.
- The HOV tunnel from southbound Hwy. 404 to westbound Hwy. 401 is also closed.
- Drivers are experiencing significant delays and are advised to use alternative routes, such as Hwy. 407, if possible.
