Sun Life insurance denies mother’s mental health LTD claim
A long-term disability denial by Sun Life Insurance has become public knowledge after Amanda Jollymore’s benefits were pulled despite deepening mental health conditions.
While caring for her 2-year-old daughter in and out of the hospital, Amanda sunk into severe depression and anxiety. Despite this, Sun Life insurance pulled their long-term disability benefits. Jollymore has since filed a legal claim against the insurance company.
Albert Klein, a disability lawyer and Partner at Samfiru Tumarkin LLP represents Jollymore and spoke to the Canadian Press regarding the ongoing claim.
“Amanda has been paying into these premiums for years thinking she has a safety net, some peace of mind, then Sun Life arbitrarily decided on a whim’s notice that they’re not going to cover her,” Klein explains.
