Employers and businesses across the province have arrived at a new hiring dilemma. While the pandemic has created an environment in which it is hard to hire staff, there has also been the additional burden of a housing crisis. Some employers have decided in order to attract employees, they will offer housing to attract a workforce.

A Vancouver employment lawyer at Samfiru Tumarkin LLP spoke with CHEK’s Kori Sidaway to comment on the possibility of housing as a recruitment tool.

The lawyer explained the importance for employers should be to focus on clarity for employees.

“Whether you’re an employer or you’re an employee, the most important thing is really just making sure it’s clear what the expectations are and it’s clear what the deal is. Because often when we get involved it’s because someone wasn’t clear about something along the way.”
