Episode Notes

  • I slipped and fell and gave notice to the city about my accident. I’m unsure about pursuing this incident as a claim. What should I do?
  • I’ve been diagnosed with cancer and off work as I continue my treatment. I was denied LTD as it was a pre-existing condition. What are my options?
  •  I’m getting LTD benefits now but I’m a bit worried though – my insurer assigned a new adjuster two weeks ago.  I’m not really sure if any of this matters or not, but should I be concerned?
  • If an employer changes insurance carriers while someone is getting disability benefits, do the disability benefits stop getting paid?
  • I used to work in a community where I witnessed a lot of difficult situations and I’ve been treated by a psychologist and my family doctor, both of whom confirm I cannot work.  The insurer has made me go through 2 appeals already.  My employer is also threatening to cut off my health benefits if I don’t pay for them myself.
  • Is there any advice you can give to disability claimants having trouble accessing treatment due to the pandemic?
  • I’ve been on LTD for approximately 9 years largely due to workplace harassment. Can I take legal action against my employer?
  • My best friend was injured in a car accident a few years back but thankfully he had LTD insurance.  His injuries still make it very hard for him. His insurance company is now telling him he has to go find some other job. Is there anything he can do?
  • What happens to someone if they’re getting disability benefits and then they’re involved in a motor vehicle accident?
  • My wife has been off work for almost 2 years due to chronic pain but we just got a letter saying that her benefits will be cut off next month because they say she could work 30 hours a week in an office.   She was also approved for CPP disability benefits 5 months ago and repaid a bunch of money to the insurance company.  Does this make sense?
