1 Hurt After “Defective” Commercial Truck Wreaks Havoc in North Bay
Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are investigating after a commercial truck ran a red light and struck multiple vehicles near Algonquin Square in North Bay on May 28, 2026.
What Happened?
- OPP responded to reports that a commercial truck went through a red light at the intersection of Highway 11 and Airport Road around 6:10pm ET on May 28.
- “The [commercial truck] collided with a passenger vehicle and continued southbound, striking additional vehicles,” police said in a news release.
- No serious injuries have been reported at this time. 1 person did sustain minor injuries.
Charges Laid
The driver of the commercial truck — a 29-year-old from Alberta — and their Brampton-based employer have been charged with 16 offences.
“Multiple critical defects were identified, and the tractor portion of the [commercial truck] was subsequently placed out of service and its licence plates were removed,” officials with the Ministry of Transportation claimed.
