1 Dead, 1 Hurt Following 2-Vehicle Crash Southeast of Sault Ste. Marie
Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are investigating a fatal 2-vehicle collision on Highway 17 southeast of Sault Ste. Marie on May 12, 2026.
What Happened?
- Emergency crews responded to reports of a serious crash on the highway involving a commercial motor vehicle and a passenger vehicle near Gordon Lake Road — west of Lawrence’s Springwater Farms — around 8am ET on May 12.
- “The driver of the passenger vehicle, an individual from British Columbia, was pronounced deceased at the scene,” OPP said in a news release.
- Minor injuries were reported for the driver of the commercial motor vehicle.

The cause of the fatal collision remains under investigation. It’s unclear if charges are pending.
